John Deere's Plow

It was Rutland-born John Deere who fashioned the first steel plow in Grand Detour, Illinois. A blacksmith in Middlebury, Vermont for twelve years, Deere moved west when he was 32, and parlayed his Yankee ingenuity into a farm machinery empire.
