Billings Farm
and Museum in Woodstock, VT

Billings
Farm was established in 1871 by Frederick Billings, a native
Vermonter who became known for his work in conservation, reforestation, and
scientific farm management.
Billings imported cattle directly from the Isle of Jersey,
maintained careful records of milk production, and bred selectively to improve
his herd. He also established a program of reforestation, putting into practice
the ideas of an earlier resident of the farm, George Perkins Marsh.
The
farm is still a working dairy, breeding fine Jerseys, selling its milk and
growing its own feed. The Billings Farm and Museum is a thriving museum of rural
Vermont life as well as a working dairy farm. Special events are held throughout
the year, including a number of
autumn and holiday activities at Billings Farm.
