 The skilled woodworkers at Clarendon
Hardwoods carefully select each piece of beautifully grained wood for these salad bowls.
Only freshly cut select trees are used in the process. The extremely green logs are cut to
length and split for turning. This process allows the woodworkers to produce bowls that
range in size from 9 inches to 23 inches in diameter, very deep, solid one-piece (not
laminated) bowls.
21 inch &
23 inch Cherry
Each bowl is cut from a single block of wood, hand-turned on a
lathe and dried in a kiln. They are individually sanded and branded with the Clarendon
Hardwoods logo on the bottom of each bowl. Finally, the bowls are hand-finished with
100% edible beeswax,
a warm finish that penetrates, conditions and seals the wood. Maple,
cherry and black walnut salad hands
and
servers are terrific
accessories for your
bowl. We've also added
enameled pewter
salad servers,
which are gorgeous.
13
inch & 16 inch cherry
Each bowl inherits the unique grain of the tree
which contains a history of the weather, climate, and soil conditions experienced during
its growth cycle. Additional examples of bowls in each of the
different wood types
highlight the uniqueness of each bowl. These are NOT "cookie-cutter" or
identical bowls.....some are slightly "out-of-round" or have variations
in the rim thickness and height, adding to the unique beauty of the individual
bowl. These features and characteristics, blending warm colors and natural
beauty are so unique, we
believe they're "heirloom quality."

Special orders can be placed for
18", 21" and 23" bowls. Please check with us to make sure
we have them in-stock.

13 inch Coffeetree Bowl with 10 inch Enameled Pewter Salad Servers
A
huge storm brought down a Kentucky Coffee tree in Rutland, VT in
September 2007. The tree, which grows is eastern North America in moist
soils with other hardwoods, is fairly rare in Vermont. Reportedly,
early immigrants in Kentucky used the large seeds of this tree to
make "coffee." The folks at Clarendon decided to make some bowls
from this tree -- with spectacular results. We have all of the bowls
they made from this tree, including 11, 13 and 16 inch
bowls. (All of the 18, 21 and 23 inch bowls have already been sold.) The
bowls have very distinctive grain patterns. If you like them,
purchase now because we will probably never have them again!
