Imagine You Were in Pain and Nobody Believed You

Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, live with daily pain and other debilitating symptoms of chronic Lyme disease. Imagine that you were in such pain and nobody believed you. Many Lyme patients live that nightmare every day. Difficulty of diagnosis and a medical establishment that is fixed on a “one size cures all” approach keep these people in pain and slow debilitation. Lyme disease has become endemic, not just in the U.S. but in many parts of the world. Laboratory tests for the presence of the disease are highly unreliable and give persistent false negatives. Co-infections that come from the same tick bite that causes Lyme are not well known or understood. Vermont Only has a personal stake in fighting Lyme (see The Faces of Lyme). Our Founder has struggled with the disease for years while being told that she tested negative, that her initial antibiotic treatment must have cured her, that our insurance provider would not pay for additional treatment and that her symptoms were imaginary. Her experience has been echoed hundreds of times by acquaintances and friends here in New England. Our daughter was moved to design the Lyme medallion as her contribution to the fight.
